'Tis the Season for Standout Creative

'Tis the Season for Standout Creative

It’s the most wonderful (and commercial) time of the year. This means there are plenty of opportunities to get creative in our sector. Here is a round up of some of the best campaigns and other pieces of content that has got us feeling festive and inspired.

ALDI Australia - Go a Little Extra
With the Northern Hemisphere so often dominating culture and the global creative and advertising sector - we love seeing a sunny Christmas campaign. Especially one we think is pretty crack up. Well done to the agency and all involved. Check out the full video here

Wrapped in Burberry
The video elements of the ‘Wrapped in Burberry’ content campaign are simple yet delightful - just like the best Christmas’. The sounds of an old music box playing over the top of slice of life moments. The people in those moments happen to either be famous actors such as David Tennant or life long collectors of the brand Drs. Hershel and Lilly Stoller - all decked head to toe in Burberry ensembles. Through ‘almost but not quite matching’ outfits, tight shots and the residential setting this campaign does a great job of marketing Burberry while emphasising the togetherness we all want to feel these holidays. Cosy cottages with The Times
“I find it hard to be tasteful at Christmas, there’s too much going on, there’s too much colour, too much noise, too many events” says Sean Pritchard as he tours The Times through his charmingly cluttered Somerset cottage. If you’ve spent the year being professionally creative working on your or other people's brand - crafting the ‘perfect’ Christmas decor and day can feel like something for the too hard basket, but we think Pritchard's ‘whatever goes’ approach is good inspiration. JD Sports  – The Family Portrait
Sportswear and streetwear go hand in hand and JD Sports know their audience well. By ditching the stereotypical, idealised idea of family this campaign is strategically designed to talk right to the JD market. With the top comment of YouTube reading “These JD adverts always light me up. It’s like the streets are being recognised for what it’s known for. The community” – it’s a sign they’ve nailed it. Check out the full video here

Barbour – Baa-Bour x Shaun the Sheep
The magic of Christmas is perfectly captured by one of the most magical mediums - claymation. Shaun the Sheep brings a sense of childlike wonder to heritage brand Barbour for their 2024 campaign - we think it’s baa-baa-brilliant. Check out the full video here

Variety Christmas Appeal
This campaign came out last year - but we’ve seen the posters around town as we head out to buy gifts and the stark contrast between so many people's realities right now is heartbreaking. These posters showing the Christmas wishes of kids in need is a great reminder that it’s not just a time to give to the ones we love, but to also give to those who really need it as well. If you can - head to varietychristmas.org.nz to make a donation.
